Joe Edward Throgmorton

Joe Edward Throgmorton, 89, of Alto Pass, died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at the Daystar Care Center in Cairo, with his family by his side.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1927, in Flint, Mich., the son of Noel and Gaynell (Bump) Throgmorton.

He married Nancy Jane Isabelle Heern on Sept. 11, 1948, in Makanda. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2013.

He is survived by his three daughters, Nancy (Gilbert) Gee of Carbondale, Rebecca “Becky” (Mickey) Gillespie of Pawnee and Cami (Ermal) Sorrels of Jonesboro; daughter-in-law Lorrie Throgmorton of Advance, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Tanya (Dan) Dadosky of Milford, Ohio, Shonda Sorrels of Godfrey, Melissa Jostes of Chatham, Michael Gillespie of Marine, Becca (Jimmy) Pyle, David Joe Throgmorton, Victoria Throgmorton and Ricky Joe Throgmorton, all of Advance, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Sydney Jo Dadosky of Milford, Ohio and Aden Jostes of Chatham; brothers and sisters Verna Heern and Barbara Earll, both of Makanda, Jean Wyatt of Pittsburg, Dorothy Throgmorton of Sesser, Dale (Diane) Throgmorton of Royalton, Jerry (Dottie) Throgmorton of Marion and Doris Ann of Texas; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Isabelle Throgmorton; a son, David Throgmorton; four brothers, Noel Jr., Raymond, Jimmy and Donald “Lee” Throgmorton; and one sister, Vera Perryman.

He was a member of the Congregational Church in Alto Pass. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He was very proud of his military service to his country. He was a member of Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna, the Cobden American Legion and the Masonic Blue Lodge of Makanda.

He drove over the road as a truck driver most of his life; later he joined the Laborers Local in Carbondale and worked until his retirement. He dearly enjoyed being around his family and friends and helping those in need with his carpentry skills.

Funeral services for Mr. Throgmorton were at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Gilbert Gee officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Graveside military rites were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Navy funeral honor detail.

Masonic rites were said at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
