John Rooney
John Rooney, 89, of Anna, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at his residence.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1934, in Maine, the son of John and Evangeline Willett Rooney in Maine.
He was married to Charlotte Rooney and she preceded him in death.
He graduated from Boston College with a degree in history. He later moved to Southern Illinois, where he ran a very successful business, Pizza Villa. He was an icon of the pizza business in Anna and Vienna.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and community sports and was an avid contributor to local youth sports.
Survivors include his daughters, Bonnie Rooney and Louella Snyder; sons William Joseph Rooney, Kenney Demerie and John Bailey; grandson Gary Morrison; granddaughters Amanda Morrison, Katie Wright, Jordan Bailey and Mandy Morrison; great-grandchildren Jayda Rooney, Evan Rooney, Serenity Sutton, Mason Sutton, Sutton Wright, Avery Wright, Lane Wight, Kendra Morrison, Dylan Morrison, Summer Spradling and Lane Spradling; daughter-in-law Tara Newhart; and a sister, Pat Quirk.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Willett.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, today, with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. with Doug Bridgeman officiating at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.
The family requests that memorials be made in the donor’s choice. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The cremation of John Rooney has been personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral Home.
