John S. Ronnebeck

John S. Ronnebeck, 82, of Cairo, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at the Metropolis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Metropolis.

Mr. Ronnebeck was born on Dec. 3, 1939, in Cairo, the son of John A. and Zada Smithey Ronnebeck.

He was employed with the Coca-Cola Company for 40 years. He was a former member of the Cairo Elks Lodge for 45-plus years, where he served as a past trustee. He was a former member of the Cairo VFW Auxiliary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lori Ronnebeck; sisters Helen Cooper, Virginia Pecord, Ida Thomas and Doris Dickerson.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia “Pat” Ronnebeck of Cairo; his children, Catherine (Tony) McCormick of Caraway, Ark., Amy (Neal) Dover of Metropolis, Linda Faye Peters of Metropolis and Scott Hines of Metropolis; Pat’s children, Michael Gabel of Paducah, Steven (Marilyn) Gabel of Stanford, N.C., and Michele Moore of Paducah; grandchildren Bryan McCormick, Natalie Vanhorn, Joey Basham, Emily Basham, Michaela Schornick, Autumn Peters, Jordyn Dover and David Hines; Pat’s grandchildren, Jenni Moore, Laci Moore, Steven Gabel Jr. and Brian Gabel; many great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; his former wife, Jackie Ronnebeck; and faithful friends, Dave Manker, Jan Lewis, Dean Davis, BB and Cathy Brown, Oscar Houston and Marty Nicholson.

His career allowed him to meet many people and he met and made countless friends throughout his lifetime. He never met a stranger.

If you were family or a friend of John’s, you loved him dearly. He was always the life of the party and always had a funny story. He “imparted wisdom” to his family and friends, who will all miss him, his funny texts, emojis and his sense of humor.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. Dave Manker officiated.

Memorials can be made to Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds.
