John Williams Sr.

John Williams Sr., 89, of Pulaski, died Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 3:32 p.m. in Herrin.

Mr. Williams was born on May 8, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Willie and Ruby Slayton Williams. 

He married Janet Whan in 1967 and she survives in Pulaski. 

Mr. Williams spent his time volunteering at the Mounds Senior Citizen Center. 

He worked for the State of Illinois as a counselor; he was the last level three counselor. Mr. Williams was the president of the Southern Illinois Counselors Association and a previous teacher at Roosevelt College.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Williams of Pulaski; a daughter, Jennifer Robinson of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, John Tyler (Stephanie) Williams Jr. of Herrin; grandchildren Jordan Robinson of Memphis, Tenn., John Tyler Williams III of Kansas City, Mo., Joshua (Ali) Lowe of Mt. Vernon, Shane (Cierra) Lowe of Mt. Vernon, Destiny Williams of Columbus, Mo., and Brittney Williams of Herrin; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, Levi (Ann) Williams; a sister, Shirley Alice; nieces Molliette Williams, Sarah Williams and Pam Williams; and nephew, David Williams.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Ruby Williams; and by two brothers, Earl and Willie Williams.

Funeral services were held at Crain Funeral Home – Egyptian Chapel in Energy on Monday, July 26, at 1 p.m., with Minister Kevin Bonifacious officiating. Cremation rites were accorded following the funeral service.

Crain Funeral Home – Egyptian Chapel in Energy  was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials can be made to the Smiles Senior Citizen Center in Mounds.
