Johnathan L. Carlton

Johnathan L. Carlton, 33, of Kansas City, Mo., and a former resident of Johnson County, died Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 1:26 a.m. at the North Kansas Hospital in Kansas City from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was born on July 15, 1984, in Paducah, the son of Craig L. and Barbara Travelstead Carlton.

Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was an Iraqi war veteran.

He was of the Christian faith. He loved riding motorcycles, as well as hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed helping others. He wanted to be an organ donor and his final act of kindness was the donation of his kidneys.

He is survived by his father, Craig (his wife, Ellen nee Gallimore) Carlton of Vienna; his mother, Barbara A. nee Travelstead Clymore of Jonesboro; his birth daughters, Séara, Grace, Peyton and Justice; a sister, Stephanie Carlton of Cambria; a brother, Shane Carlton of Goreville; two nephews, Aden and Jayden; aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents,  Lyle and Jeanne Carlton; his maternal grandparents, Alvin “Gene” and Edna Travelstead; stepfathers Gregory Prineas and G.A. Clymore; an uncle and three aunts, Raymond and Sue Ann Travelstead, Shirley Sharp and Linda Smith.

A service honoring the life of Johnathan Carlton will be conducted Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Sean White will officiate.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by Beggs-Gurley VFW Post No. 5222 and the Illinois National Guard burial honors detail. Interment will be in the Mound City National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, July 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

Memorials can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076, www.dav.org or to the family to assist with service expenses and can be left in the care of Bailey Funeral Home.
