Jonathan Wade Pengress

Jonathan Wade Pengress, 28, of Arnold, Mo., and formerly of Jonesboro, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born on May 23, 1989, in Carbondale, the son of Robin and Kathy Pengress.

He is survived by his parents, Robin (Kathy) Pengress of Jonesboro; a brother, Eric Pengress of Anna; a sister, Samantha (Brad) Dawson of Anna; his grandmother, Ludine Copeland of Anna; three aunts, Karen (Ron) Hubbs of Anna, Pam Kaplan of Florida and Della (Ron) Shepherd of Wolf Lake; two uncles, Frank Pengress of Herrin and Richard (Tanya) Pengress of Anna; a nephew and close friend, Carson Pengress of Anna; a niece and nephew, Kayma Dawson and Sawyer Dawson, both of Anna; cousins Tim (Stacy) Hubbs of Anna, Jessica Kaplan of Florida, Heath Pengress of Anna, Vance (Theresa) Pengress of Anna, Cliff (Mary) McMahan of Wolf Lake, David (Angie) McMahan of Grand Tower, Beth (Jack) Thornton of Wolf Lake, Sean (Deneen) McMahan of Grand Tower and Luke (Shelly) McMahan of Wolf Lake.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George (Martha) Pengress of Anna; his maternal grandfather, Carol Copeland of Jonesboro; and niece, Caitlyn Pengress of Anna.

He was a 2007 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, where he was a proud member of the A-J Wildcat football team, basketball team and track team. He was a 2010 graduate of Shawnee Community College, where he played basketball for the Saints. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Pengress was a member of Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna and was very active with the youth program.

He worked as a staff accountant for the Union County treasurer’s office. In December 2014, he graduated from Missouri State Highway Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City, Mo. He was proud to serve as a highway patrol officer for Troop C in Jefferson County, Mo., until his battle with leukemia began. He leaves behind many brave brothers and sisters in blue, teammates, friends, fishing buddies, gamers and coworkers.

Funeral services for Jonathan Wade Pengress were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Anna Heights Baptist Church, with Pastor Darryl Williams officiating. Interment was in the Casper Church Cemetery near Anna.

Memorials can be made to the Anna Heights Baptist Church Upward program.
