Joshua Everett Estes

Joshua Everett Estes, 26, of Anna, died at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, due to severe injuries from a cliff diving accident at Current River near Van Buren, Mo.

He was born on Jan. 21, 1990, in Cape Girardeau, the son of David T. “Herb” Estes and Jane Miller Estes.

He worked for Marquette Transport, where he started as a deck hand and recently began working in the engine room making application to become assistant engineer. He previously worked as a coal miner.

He was a dedicated hardworking man. He loved music, spending time with his seemingly uncountable friends and dearly loved his family. Josh had the gift of making you feel like the most important person in the room. He was the least judgmental person one would ever meet, genuinely cared for everyone. We lost a true light, his family said.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Estes of Anna; father, David (Sue) Estes of Gilbertsville, Ky.; sisters Kandy (Michael) Brink of St. Charles, Rhiannon Estes of Paducah and Elysia Estes of Fishers, Ind.; brothers Rob (Trish) Estes of Paducah, Rob (Stacy) Jerrell of Cobden and Samuel (Haley) Estes of Anna; nieces and nephews Jordan, Katie, Emma, Peace-Lynn, Caleb, Harmony, Cooper, Isabella, Lilyana, Crosby and Caleb; aunts and uncles Rose (Bud) Nevels, Joan Mucho, Janice (David) Hammers, Steven Estes, Susan Meneer and her husband Ken Magill; along with many cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jeremiah Jerrell; grandparents Elvis and Nellie Miller, Robert William Estes and Betty Mae Tetley, Estes, Williamson; aunt Gloria Estes; uncles Dean Miller, Chuck Mucho and Bryan Meneer.

Visitation will be Thursday, today, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna.

Funeral services for Joshua Estes will be Thursday, today, at 7 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Brad Dexter and the Rev. Charles Jennings officiating. Interment will be Friday, Aug. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Anna City Cemetery.
