Katie Poulos

Katie Poulos, 75, of Dongola, died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, July 12, 2020, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1944, in Saline County, the daughter of Clint and Lillian Carrier Endsley.  

She married Bill Poulos on Sept. 3, 1967. 

Katie was known for the love she gave, caring for others and making certain that they had a full stomach of her delicious cooking. She would mother anyone who would accept it.  

Katie loved the woods, the outdoors and her dogs.  She was a sun goddess and grammar Nazi.  

She earned her master’s degree in English at Southern Illinois University.  She became a textual editor at the Center for Dewey Studies at SIU for 20 years and then worked for Shawnee Community College, where she taught English and then was an administrator of financial aid. Once Katie retired she devoted her life to her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; daughter Elaina (Tim) Keller; son Chris Poulos (Alison Smith); grandchildren Sydney Waters, Elias Keller, Soren Keller, Will Keller, Elliott Poulos and Jude Poulos; great-grandchildren Sailor and Romy Waters; and a sister, Elaine Myers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by sisters Mary Anne Alexander and an infant. 

The family will celebrate her life privately.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the donor’s favorite animal shelter.
