Kenneth ‘Big John’ Boyd

Kenneth “Big John” Boyd, 78, of Anna, died Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Herrin Hospital.

He was born on May 18, 1939, in Anna, the son of David Andrew Boyd of Anna and Nellie Louise Coulter Boyd of Lafayette, Tenn.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63). He earned his way to storekeeper third class (SK3 E-4) and also received the Vietnam Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal Award.

“Big John” was known by many with his warm smile and wonderful stories at Kroger. Everyone who knew him knew his love for life and people. He was an avid metal detector and traveled all over and found many different things. He retired from Kroger with over 34 years as a grocer in Anna.

He is survived by his daughter and fiance, Autumn Sutton and Michael Carter of Marion; his sister, Doris Jean Abercrombie of Arkansas; and his former wife, Linda Boyd of Vienna.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, today, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.

Private inurnment services will be held at Anna City Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
