Lyndal Lane Qualls

Lyndal Lane Qualls, 58, died peacefully at his home on April 15, 2023. 

He was born on Oct. 23, 1964, in Wynne, Ark., the son of James and Margaret Qualls.

Mr. Qualls is survived by his wife, Cheryl Qualls, and son, Eric James Qualls of Karnak; and his brother, Lanny Qualls of Grand Chain. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Butler Qualls. 

After 30 years of service, Mr. Qualls retired as a correctional lieutenant at Shawnee Correctional Center. 

He was an active member of Metropolis Elks Lodge No. 1428, where he served two terms as Exalted Ruler, then moved on to serve as District Deputy of the Elks Southern District of Illinois. He participated in many of the Elks programs, but, in particular, the Elks National Foundation and This Able Vet. 

During his life, Mr. Qualls had been an avid hunter and fisherman. 

He loved his son, and was always active in whatever interest Eric had, whether T-ball, youth basketball, football, deer hunting or fishing. 

He loved watching Cardinals baseball and Raider and Razorback football. For a time, he coached junior varsity football for the Massac County Patriots and will be remembered by those he coached as “Coach Qualls.” That title and the team brought great pride and happiness to him.

An Elks Final Ritual Ceremony well be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, at  Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis.

Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery in Boaz at a later date.
