Mary A. Ballance

Mary A. Ballance, 95, of Wolf Lake, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at Herrin Hospital. 

She was born on Jan. 19, 1926, in East St. Louis, the daughter of Fred and Stella E. Wilson Groves.

 She married Dorris G. Ballance on Feb. 27, 1945, in Anna. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1976.

Mrs. Ballance is survived by her children, June (Richard) Vanover of Murray, Ky., Audrey (Brad) Burchyett of Tonganoxie, Kan., Dennis (Linda) Ballance of Carterville, Angie (David) McMahan of Wolf Lake, Mindy (David) Livesay of Wolf Lake and Tina Bryan (David Peters) of Webster Groves, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Karen Ballance of Wolf Lake; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorris G. Ballance; a son, Tim “Razor” Ballance; a son-in-law, Scott Bryan; and a grandson, Kent Burchyett. 

She was a lifelong member of Galilee Baptist Church in Wolf Lake. She was dedicated to her church, serving many years as a Sunday school teacher, church secretary and WMU director. She was very passionate about doing mission work through the church. 

She was a proud mother and grandmother, her family was most important to her, and she lived for her weekly family Sunday dinners. 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, today, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro,  with the Rev. Cody Knapik officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. 

Friends can call after 11 a.m. and until the service hour at 1 p.m. Thursday, today, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. 

Memorials are preferred to the Wolf Lake Community Center/Park or to a mission of the donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
