Mary Elizabeth Belcher-Jackson

Mary Elizabeth Belcher-Jackson, 97, of Anna, died on Nov. 29, 2017, at her home.

She was born on July 10, 1920, in Metropolis, the daughter of Clarence and Mae Colgrove Gillespie Sr.

She married Harry Belcher on Aug. 7, 1940. He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1996. Afterwards, she married Leonard Jackson, who also preceded her in death.

She retired from Sears after 26 years. After retirement, she and Harry saw all of the United States and parts of Canada, always taking someone with them to enjoy the same. She loved people and was active in her church at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. She accepted Jesus at the age of 26 and often said her greatest gift in life was her salvation. She found that his peace and joy was her strength in life. She loved her family with all her heart.

She is survived by her son, Gary Belcher of Anna.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Harry Belcher and Leonard Jackson; a brother, Clarence Gillespie Jr.; two sisters, Peggy Mallams and Betty Bauer; and a daughter, Dedyra Ann Belcher.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with the Rev. Joe Aldridge officiating. Interment was in the Anna City Cemetery in Anna.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
