Mary Murrie, 85, of Marion, died at 6:58 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 21, 1931, in Paragould, Ark., the daughter of Dixon and Willie Hammock Day.
She married Billy Murrie on May 15, 1953, in Anna. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2016.
She graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. Early in her life she worked as a telephone operator for GTE. Later she began working at Kroger in Anna and Marion and worked there for over 30 years, retiring as a front end supervisor. She then worked at the Marion Eye Center.
She was a founding member of Community of Faith Church in Carterville, where she and her husband, Bill, both volunteered in the clown ministry. She was very active in church and enjoyed many church activities. She liked to spend time with her family and grandchildren and enjoyed shopping.
Survivors include two sons, William Scott and Monica Murrie of Marion and Douglas and Debbie Murrie of Murphysboro; grandchildren Andrew Scott and Kelly Murrie, Jessica and Gusti Yudhistira, Amanda Murrie and Collin Murrie; and great-grandchildren William Evan Murrie and Cohen Yudhistira.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Toby Day and Bud Day; and a sister, Martha Stephens.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Todd Greiner officiating.
