Mary Rita Rhodes
Mary Rita Rhodes, 87, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., and formerly of Jonesboro, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at the West River Health Campus in Evansville, Ind.
She was born on June 4, 1931, in Denver, Colo., the daughter of Thomas William and Cecelia Keddy Collins.
She married Loren “Jim” Rhodes on June 24, 1951, in San Diego, Calif. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2018.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Stan) Hutchinson of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; a son, Thomas Loren (April) Rhodes of St. Louis; grandchildren Brieanna Hutchinson O’Connor, Brandon Hutchinson, Brittany Hutchinson, Lindsey Hale and Jennifer McQuary; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Tori, Reece, Dawson, Larissa, Bryce, Maelee, Maia, Carter and Ava; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Loren “Jim” Rhodes; sisters, Francis and Lillian; and one brother, Thomas Collins.
She was a member of the Light House Bible Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.She loved making cards, sewing and teaching Sunday School. She was retired from Hunter Engineering in St. Louis, where she worked many years as the secretary.
Private graveside funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Jonesboro Cemetery. Interment was in the Jonesboro Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Light House Bible Baptist Church, 2826 Independence St., Cape Girardeau, Mo., in care of missionary Kevin Wynne.
