Mathis Hoyle ‘Hat’ Ayers
Mathis Hoyle “Hat” Ayers, 83, of Anna, died at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at his son’s home.
He was born on May 17, 1933, in Haleyville, Ala., the son of Willie and Mary Hamilton Ayers.
He married Luberdia Jean Turner on April 1, 1956, in Corinth, Miss. She preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 2013.
He is survived by his four sons, Wayne Kermit Ayers of Jonesboro, Sheldon Ayers of Anna, Michael Leroy Ayers of Jonesboro and James Mathis (Daelia) Ayers of Lick Creek; grandchildren Dennis Ayers, Crystal Leigh, Angela (Dustin) Ray, Brandy Shelton, Dustin Ayers and Jaden Ayers; great-grandchildren Brittanie Ray, Lillian Ray, Logan Ray, Aubrie Ray, Richard Leigh and Trevor Leigh; one sister, Bobbie Rossman of Anna; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Luberdia Jean Ayers; one sister, Opal Ashley; and three brothers, Darris Ayers, Charles Ayers and Kermitt Ayers.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna.
A celebration of life for Mr. Ayers will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at the Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna. Military rites will be conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW.
