Paul Dean Honey

Paul Dean Honey, 82, of Carterville, died peacefully in his sleep at Herrin Hospital on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1939, in Tamms, the son of Howard and Mildred Lingle Honey.

He married Joan Sasseen Honey on May 18, 1968. She survives, of Carterville.

Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Anthony Fleege, of Carterville; granddaughters Madison and Megan Fleege of Carterville; a sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Richard Palmer of Vienna; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Honey of Mounds.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kent Honey; a grandson, Christopher Honey; and a brother, Danny Honey.

Paul and Joan met in Cairo, where they both began their banking careers.  They later moved to Carterville, where Mr. Honey worked his way up to executive vice president and CEO of Carterville State and Savings Bank, retiring after over 20 years of service to the Carterville community.  He was a long-time member of the Crainville Baptist Church.

His greatest joys in life were, above all, his family, followed by Cardinals baseball and golf. Armchair coaching was his forte.

He believed the sun rose and set in his beloved granddaughters and was an amazing grandfather to them.

Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements. Per the wishes of Mr. Honey and his family, he was cremated and will have a memorial service at a later date. For more information, visit rigginpillatschburkefh.com.
