Raymond Furlow
Raymond Furlow, 93, of Cobden, died at 12:47 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born on June 10, 1923, in Cobden, the son of Earl D. and Elizabeth Crews Furlow.
He married Martha Jean Thomas on Nov. 7, 1946, in Oceola, Ark. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2015.
He is survived by his two sons, Raymond (Sheryl) Furlow and Bobby J. Furlow, all of Cobden; three grandchildren, Josh J. Furlow, Jeff Furlow and Mike (Samantha) Furlow; one great-grandchild, Avery Furlow; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha Furlow; one sister and two brothers.
He worked for many years in the construction industry, 19 of them for the Illinois Central Railroad as a bridge builder. He loved farming and gardening, and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the VFW’s Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 Men’s Auxiliary, the Labors Local 227 in Carbondale and a life member of the Anna Moose.
Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Furlow will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, today, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda.
