Rev. Verlee Eaker
Rev. Verlee Eaker, 88, of Cape Girardeau, and formerly of Anna, died at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1928, in Grassy, Mo., the son of Raymond and Lilly Mouser Eaker.
He married Joyce Johnson on July 10, 1950. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2015.
He started preaching when he was 16 years of age. He was ordained at Perkins Baptist Church in Missouri. He attended Southeast Missouri State University. He was a preacher in Essex, Mo., Anniston, Mo., Whitewater, Mo., Lake Milligan Baptist Church in Miller City and Mounds.
He moved to Anna in 1960, where he was director of missions for the Clear Creek Baptist Association and in 1995 he retired and returned to Lake Milligan Baptist Church.
He was really close to his Grandfather Eaker. He said he taught him about hunting and he was a good Christian man.
He is survived by his daughter, Beverlee (Jim) Hastings of Cape Girardeau; sons Shelby (Nancy) Eaker of Martinsville, Ind., and Mark (Penny) Eaker of Anna; grandchildren Bradley (Mary) Eaker of Old Hickory, Tenn., Melissa Eaker of Old Hickory, Tenn., Joshua (Loree) Eaker of Old Hickory, Tenn., Brock (Callie) Eaker of Fenton, Mo., Joby (Andrew) Crabtree of Chesterfield, Mo., and Brandon Eaker of St. Louis; great-grandchildren Evan, Emma, Ezra, Ean, Lilly, Avery, Evelyn, Brooklyn and TBA, Liam; and siblings Dimple (Delbert) Wiseman, Dewayne (Velma) Eaker, Ermalee (Sam) Smith, Linda Seabaugh and Gary (Katy) Eaker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Eaker; and siblings Bill Eaker, Wanda Hess and Glendel Eaker.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Harvest Church in Anna, with the Rev. Dean West, Kim Capel and pastor Tony Foeller officiating. Interment was in Casper Cemetery near Anna.
Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
