Richard ‘Dick’ L. McCain

Richard “Dick” L. McCain, 81, of Palm Springs, Calif., and formerly of Jonesboro, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, in Palm Springs, Calif. 

He was born on April 27, 1938, the son of Leslie and Hazel Housman McCain. His mother died shortly after his birth; he was raised by his maternal grandmother and his mother’s sisters. 

Born in Jonesboro, he attended Jonesboro School and Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. 

He served with the Illinois National Guard, the active duty U.S. Army and a tour in the U.S. Air Force.

He worked his way through the University of Indiana, earning a degree in geology and a master’s  degree in education. 

He taught high school math and science in Montgomery County, Md., teaching both students and faculty computer operation and programming. 

Following 35 years of teaching, he sold his home in Washington, D.C., and purchased a home in Palm Springs, Calif. 

He was a gentleman content with his God and the conduct of his life. 

He will be buried next to his grandmother, Laura Housman, in Jonesboro.
