Richard Leon ‘Rick’ Farris

Richard Leon “Rick” Farris, of East Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, April 10, 2021.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1951, in Eureka, Kan., the son of Harold and Ruth Farris.  

He married Norma Glenn on Nov. 25, 2003. She survives.

Mr. Farris enjoyed spending time with his family, including his wife, Norma. Together, they enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals baseball, traveling and spending time with family. 

He had a deep faith and enjoyed sharing with others about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed sharing stories of his military service. 

He was retired and spent several years driving for John Sinclair Nissan where he made many good friends.

Mr. Farris is survived by his wife, Norma; stepchildren Marilyn and Ronnie Ashworth of East Cape Girardeau, Debbie and Mike Penrod of Steeleville, Becky and Jeff Betts of Denver, Colo., Lisa Hayes and friend, Donald Dane, and Vicki Betts of Paducah; grandsons Matt Ashworth, Michael Betts (Kelley), Rob Betts (Sarah) and Ethan Copeland; granddaughters Melissa Taylor, Julie Powell (Eric), Heather Rushing (Ryan), Jeanna Weatherby (Tony), Marla Latham (Steve), Jessica Copeland, Emily Lyons (Andrew) and Abby Richard (Andrew); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents;  one brother; stepson Mike Betts; and grandson Jeff Ashworth.

Funeral services were at noon Wednesday, April 14, at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with Pastor Phil Roop officiating.  

Interment followed in Cypress Cemetery in Cypress. Military graveside rites were accorded by Beggs-Gurley VFW Post No. 5222 and the U.S. Army.
