Sara Jane Joe

Sara Jane Joe, 97, of Cairo, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, at Countryside Center in Bardwell, Ky.

She was born on July 31, 1923, in Cairo, the daughter of James and Margaret Joe. 

She owned and operated a grocery store in Cairo for many years.

After retiring from that, she worked for Alexander County in her later years. 

She often attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cairo and her deep and abiding faith in God was a guiding force in her life. 

As a grocery store owner, she was known for her generosity. Clients kept running monthly tabs in a ledger and when they could not pay for their tab, she often wrote it off.

She is survived by a nephew and several great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds.
