Sherry Kay Bagby

Sherry Kay Bagby, 65, of Vienna, and formerly of Cypress, died Saturday, July 21, at 7:10 a.m. at Century Assisted Living in Carbondale.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1952, in Anna. She was the second of nine children born to Robert and Ruby Earnhart Williams.

Survivors include her children, Toma Kaye (John) Branche of Cypress and John (Sonny)  Bagby of Vienna; seven grandchildren, Brett and Chase Osman and Daisy, Cole, John, Clayton and Sandra Kay Bagby; her loving companion for the past 10 years, Ed Guernsey of Vienna; her siblings, Jerry (Glenda) Williams of Carterville, Gary (Ellen) Williams of Vienna, Donna Willeford of Vienna, Debra Kohlbacher of Cape Girardeau, David (Christine) Williams of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin (Glenda) Williams of Calvert City, Ky., Keith Williams of Stonefort and Karen (Tony) Elder of Mounds; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a 1971 graduate of Vienna High School.  She also attended Shawnee Community College near Ullin.  

She had worked at the former Throgmorton Drug Store in Vienna, as well as at Green Implement Company in Cypress. She was also a car-hop at  Hoot’s Drive-In.  

She worked for 33 years prior to her retirement for the United States Postal Service. During her working career, worked at a number of area post offices, including Metropolis, Makanda, Cypress, Carbondale and Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  

She had served as the postmaster at the Villa Ridge, Simpson, Mound City, Cairo, Anna and Vienna Post Offices.  

She had served as a lobbyist, as well as the state president, for the Illinois Division of NAPUS (now United Post Masters and Managers of America).  

She was a member of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce. She had been very involved in the PTO and was formerly a very active 4-H volunteer leader. She was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. She was of the Baptist faith.

In her spare time, she  enjoyed traveling, holiday home decorating, spending time visiting with and “pranking” family and friends. She and Ed enjoyed motorcycling.

A service honoring the life of Sherry Bagby will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. A time of sharing of stories and memories of Sherry will be given during the service.  Relatives and friends are encouraged to share their favorite remembrance of her.

Burial will be in the Cypress Cemetery.
