Shirley Lee Bunker West

Shirley Lee Bunker West, 85, of Aurora, and formerly of Karnak, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. 

She was born in Karnak on Dec. 18, 1935, the daughter of Ward Beecher Bunker and Ruby Lee Bunker. 

She grew up in Karnak and was a member of the Karnak High School class of 1953. 

In 1955 she married William Gene West and together they traveled the world from England to Libya as he served in the U.S. Air Force. 

She enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and felt it was important to visit with others who had no one else to talk to. She was very independent and made an impact on more people than she realized. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; sisters Opal Bunker and Adeline Tutko; a brother, Bill Bunker; a nephew, Jerry Tutko; and a great-grandson Gene Furukawa.

She is survived by her brother, John Bunker and wife Jackie; daughter Tina Loeser; son Bill West and wife Karen; granddaughters Erin Romine and husband Jeff, Kelly West and Abbey West; grandson Scott Loeser and wife Lisa; and great-grandchildren Jade Loeser, Vinnie Furukawa, Raymond Furukawa, KC Furukawa, David Furukawa and Owen Loeser.

Graveside memorial services honoring the life of Shirley Lee Bunker West will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Anderson Cemetery in Boaz (in rural Massac County). 

The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 13, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak.
