She was born on Jan. 20,1925, in Appleton, Wis.,  the daughter of Nile and Charlotte Ruth Hammond, sister to Lucille Irene Alme and brother Nile Spencer Hammond .

Virginia was the loving matriarch of a large extended family, mother of five children, Robert L (Pete) Housman, Debra Kay Rees (Gary), Cheryl Ann Peckron (Jeff), Mary Kathryn Wood (Paul) and Jon Wayne Housman (Crystal).

A life is not measured in days or months, or years  or miles traveled or money earned or spent. It is measured by the hugs gotten and given, the hearts held, the lives touched and changed along the way.  Virginia Housman took a chance on loving  every day of her life and the well-lit road she traveled led her home.

A Memorial for Virginia will take place at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna on Friday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.

Memorials can be made to the Shawnee Hills Arts Council/Anna Arts Center, Anna-Jo Garden Club Community Beautification Fund or the Food Pantry Ministries at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro or the United Methodist Church of Anna.
