Minnie Pearl Quertermous
Minnie Pearl Quertermous, 97, of Cobden, died Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Shawnee Senior Living in Herrin, with four generations of her family at her bedside.
She was born on May 18, 1927, in Charleston, Mo., the daughter of Thomas and Muriel Leach Sands.
She married the love of her life, Lawrence Lee Quertermous, on Sept. 25, 1943.
In 1949, they moved to Cobden to the farm where four generations of her family continue to live and work. Lawrence preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 2010.
Strong in mind and body, and never one to mince words, Minnie was a tireless worker, both on the farm and in her job as head of housekeeping at Union County Hospital and at Chester Memorial Hospital. She was generous with her time and money and helped many people along the way.
She enjoyed taking care of her home, her flower gardens and her grandchildren, all of whom made her very proud. She had many fond memories of traveling with Lawrence and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Larry Joe (Ellen) Quertermous Sr.; grandchildren Larry Joe (Becky) Quertermous Jr., Michael (Tanya) Quertermous, Darrel Lee (Melanie) Hartline and Darla (James) Peterman; great-grandchildren Ty (Goldie)Quertermous, Kayla Jo (Stephanie Bowen) Quertermous, Logan Lee (Seth Harrison) Quertermous, Jaycie Lynn (Trenton) Bennett, Daryl Leigh (Ryan) Addison, Cherokee Lynn Hartline, Sandra Dean (Kentrell) Keys, Bobbi Jo Hartline, Alexis (Benjamin Hawk) Peterman, Makynzie Peterman and Tommy Dale Quertermous; great-great-grandchildren Preston, Isabelle, Lukas, Khelani, Khloe, Tucker, Jayda, Jayne and Jordan; and son-in-law Gary Dale Hartline.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter Sandra Lee Hartline; grandson Tommy Lee Quertermous; and siblings Mary “Bert” Elliott, Regina “Ella” Walker, Roy, George and Jake Sands.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Shawnee Senior Living and Hospice of Southern Illinois for the loving care they provided Minnie in her final years.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Tim Gossett officiating. Interment was in the Cobden Cemetery.
