A pileated woodpecker appeared to be grinning at the photographer when the picture was taken. Two of the big birds were actually hanging around at the time, at a location which will remain, well, secret. I will say that it was on the North American continent.A snake seemed to be enjoying the warmth on the State Forest Road when it was spotted last Saturday morning. The reptile was not particularly happy when the photographer stopped to encourage it to get off the road. Just didn't want to see the snake get squished. An egret (well, I think it’s an egret) poked its head up high, perhaps to keep an eye on the photographer. All in all, the bird was quite cooperative about having its picture taken.

Oh, no, not again...birds...and a snake...

Please read this. . .

Oh, no. He’s doing it again this week. Pictures of birds and a snake...

...sometimes, you just have to go dig in the dirt, or take pictures of birds, or get face to face with the rocks in a creek bed...

Such was the case last weekend. The Other Half and yours truly just needed to do some things that were, well, “normal,” whatever that might be. We sometimes refer to such adventures as “therapy.”

For The Other Half, therapy generally involves either digging in the dirt and growing things or the company of a feline. Whatever the case, it seems to work. And I can tell you, without a doubt, that after spending all of the years she’s spent with yours truly, therapy is important.

In my case, therapy involves taking pictures of the interesting critters I get to see on the Journey Through Life. Therapy also involves wandering around in the woods and in creek beds, looking for reminders of critters that lived millions of years ago.

Enough about us. I hope you have your own kind of therapy...

...time for another shameless plug:

Again, in the interest of full disclosure, yours truly is an honorary life member of the Friends of Stinson.

Summer is a great time to sit out on the porch, with a cold drink and a good book. Check out the sale at Stinson. Maybe you can find your next favorite book...

...one last thing this week...a belated happy anniversary to my sweetheart...you are my rock...
