Spotted this robin in Anna following one of our recent winter weather events. I’m guessing the robin won’t miss snow, sleet, ice and cold much either.
Once again this week, we’ll just kind of wander around, with a little bit of this...and a little bit of that... Guess I missed the announcement about the speed limit on new U.S. Route 51 changing to something like 125 miles per hour. Apparently, tailgating at a high rate of speed continues to be...
Shot this photo while motoring along new U.S. Route 51 on the way to metropolitan Anna early on Thursday morning, February 3. Didn’t see much traffic along the highway until I got closer to the big city.
Union County’s weather during the last week has been deja vu all over again... Around the middle of the month during February way back in 2021, Mother Nature sent us a bit of an icy Valentine’s Day greeting. On Valentine’s Day last year, the high temperature in Union County was T-W-E-L-V-E degrees...
March of the Canada geese? Saw a gaggle of geese crossing an ice-covered pond last Friday afternoon. Didn’t see any penguins...
Hope springs eternal... We’ll get back to that in a few paragraphs...in the meantime, read on... Hope you’ve finished your shopping for all of those Groundhog Day gifts... The big day is February 2. Did you happen to watch those NFL playoff games on television last weekend. Pretty... good... stuff...
Yup...another photograph of turtles...but to be honest, I really, really was not expecting to see turtles on the 13th day of January. And yet, there they were, basking in the winter sunshine. I am guessing there might not be any turtles to be seen in Union County in the bitter cold which is forecast for today.
Oh, dear, no deer... We’ll get back to that in just a little bit... Last Thursday afternoon, yours truly stayed in what has pretty much become a weekly routine. I paid a regular visit to the seat of county government in Jonesboro, and then headed over to the nearby Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds...
Cool kitty: While walking along the Quetil Trail in Alto Pass, I happened to catch a glimpse of a very fluffy cat catching some rays in the rocky cliffs along the trail. I’m guessing the cat wanted to know why the creature with the camera wasn’t inside, where it was warm.
Once again this week, we’re going to wander around a little bit... Mainly because it’s Monday afternoon and my self-imposed deadline to complete this little gem has long since come and gone. (Then it was Monday evening...Monday night The National Football League playoffs are about to begin. Pretty...
As readers may know, yours truly likes to take photographs with critters in them. Saw this feathered critter while motoring through my hometown on a bright and sunny afternoon during the closing days of the year now gone by...we can only hope that 2021 will Rest in Peace...
Some things that made me go... hmmmmm...or, maybe...huh? It was 72 degrees on our front porch on the afternoon of Christmas Day... A little over a week later, on the afternoon of the second day of a brand new year, it was 27 degrees...and there were flurries of snow a-falling... Then there was......
As mentioned last week, it’s the season for traditions. That’s why you get to see some photographs of critters again this week. Before we get to the critters, a few words about a couple of other holiday traditions... ...yours truly made an annual Christmas Eve journey. The adventure did not involve...
No blizzard here...a turtle popped its head out of the water, perhaps to take advantage of bright sunshine and 70-degree December weather last Thursday afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds in Jonesboro. Might be kind of hard to tell, but the critter appeared to be smiling.
Cue the song...you can find it on YouTube...or wherever you happen to listen to the music of your choice for the moment. “It’s the End of the World as We Know It” by REM. It has to be the end of the world as we know it. Last week, we had record high temperatures for early December. Near 80 degrees...
Captured this stark image of a tree line one morning last week during a visit to the Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds in Jonesboro.
This week, we’re having some leftovers...a little bit of this and a little bit of that...just kind of meandering... Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. Still enjoying leftovers? Put whipping cream on them. No matter what they are. Turkey? Stuffing? Great with whipping cream.  Can’t wait until...
Leaves covered the landscape at the intersection of West High and South Green streets in Anna on Thursday morning, Nov. 11.
Several times last week, while motoring back and forth to The Paragraph Factory, I couldn’t help but notice the fall display of colors which Mother Nature has created. One word came to mind... Wow... With that in mind, this week we’re offering a few reflections about autumn (or fall) featured in an...
