Orville F. Temke

Orville F. Temke, 84, of Ullin, passed away at 4:38 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Temke was born Nov. 14, 1926, at America, Ill., the son of the late William Temke and Elsie (Mayer) Temke.

Orville was raised in the America community, Olmsted and Ullin area, and attended the Levings and New Hope grade schools. He attended the Ullin High School and graduated from Sparta Township High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. Mr. Temke served in the U.S. Army from 1947 until his retirement in 1966.

He married Michiko Sakamoto of Yokohama, Japan, in 1950 at the American Consulate in Yokohama, Japan.

Survivors include his wife, Michiko Temke, Ullin; two daughters, Debra Temke, Perryville, Mo., and Carol (Alan) Langenfield, Champaign; four grandsons, Bryan and Dale DeVries, Nicholas and Caleb Langenfield; three brothers, George Temke, Olmsted, Lester Temke, Karnak, and Leonard Temke, Dongola; two sisters, Roselee Holshouser, Tamms, and Patricia Hudgens, Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Kathern Ann Temke, deceased in 1951 buried at the Internal Cemetery in Yokohama, Japan.

Orville’s memberships includes lifetime member and past commander of VFW Post No. 3455, Anna; life member of the Retired Enlisted Association, Aurora, Colo.; life member of American Military Retirees Association, Saranac Lake, N.Y.; past member and past president of Cape Girardeau Chapter of RSES, currently is a member at large; and an officer of the Concord Cemetery Association, Olmsted. He owned and operated Temke Electric from 1970 until his retirement in 1993.

Funeral services for Orville F. Temke will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at the Jones Funeral Home, Villa Ridge with Pastor Paul H. Donner officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery rural Olmsted, with full military honors by members of the Anna VFW Post No. 3455 of Anna.
