PAST board of directors meets to plan activities for coming year

The board of directors for the PAST organization of Union County met Friday, Jan. 8, to plan events for the coming year.

The meeting was Tuesday, Jan. 5, in the conference room at Shawnee Community College’s Anna Extension Center.

Those present were Judy Smith, Rita Dodd, Judy Neal, Holly Wohlwend, Linda Hileman, new member Andi Laster, Mindy Carter, Linda Sadler, Kay McRaven, Evelyn Bailey, Barbara Bauer and Elaine Crain. 

Council member Mary Ellen Ecker and reserve members Kathy Tolson and  Mona Diefenbach were unable to attend.

Annual Dinner

PAST’s annual Lincoln dinner is planned on Lincoln’s birthday, Friday, Feb. 12, at C-Infinity Event Center in Cobden. Details will be announced soon.

Proceeds from this fund-raiser will be applied to the ongoing project to purchase and preserve “The House Where Lincoln Stayed” in Anna as a community historical site. For more information call Linda at 833-8745.

PAST Market Place

The PAST Market Place is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 27, in the lower gymnasium at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School.

Set up begins at 7:30 a.m. for vendors. Doors are scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for business. 

The event is planned with a flea market setting to include vender booths for arts, crafts, collectibles, quilts, interior decor, antiques, food and more. 

Vendors can reserve space for $25 or $35/electric.  Call Mindy at 833-8427 or Linda at 833-3347 for more information.

St. Anne’s Church

Historic St. Anne’s Church in Anna will continue to serve as a site for community events and exhibits. 

The St. Anne’s committee is planning a fund raising event in March.  Details are pending, but the probable date is Friday evening, March 12, to be held at St. Anne’s. 

Plans are something along the line of a box supper social. For information about St. Anne’s or the event, call Elaine at 833-9441 or Judy at 833-6989.         

St. Anne’s is scheduled to be the site of an event on March 27 in support of the Carbondale Varsity Theatre restoration project. 

In May St. Anne’s will host an open house to welcome representatives of the Walter Burley Griffin Society during their visit to Anna’s Stinson Memorial Library. For information call 833-9441.

“Pieces of the Past”

The “Pieces of the Past” quilt and table show is set for Friday and Saturday, April 16-17 at C-Infinity in Cobden.

The theme for this year is “Table Fables and Quilt Tales.” It is designed to spark creative thinking based on books and stories for interesting exhibits and displays. 

Coordinators are Andi Laster for luncheon and table displays, and Barb Bauer for the quilt exhibits and stories. Contact Andi at 833-3148 and Barb at 833-3228 with ideas and/or items for displays.

Home Tour

PAST’s 2010 home tour dates were discussed. A majority vote moved the home tour date from ColorFest weekend to a November weekend. 

More details on the event are to be announced.  To volunteer to host a home or for information contact Holly Wohlwend at 833-3839.  

Board Members

Board member terms were renewed and officers reelected. Andi Laster was welcomed as a new board member. 

Membership in Friends of PAST is available for a one-time, lifetime fee of $25. Call Kay at 833-8029 for membership.

Educational grants for school groups to do historical projects are available.
