Please read this...Over the river and through the woods, sort of

'Twas the night before Thanksgiving, and all through the town,

snow covered the ground, and more was coming down. . .

Sigh. . .

Sunday evening. Stepped outside. Bugs were making whatever noises bugs make on the last day of November. Except that bugs are usually frozen by the time November makes its exit.

At the time this was started early Sunday afternoon, the weather in the great outdoors was windy, but a little bit less than frightful. The nifty "dashboard" on my computer informed me that the temperature was 67 degrees. 67 degrees? On the last day of November, no less.

Spring time in November was expected to come to a rather abrupt end less than 24 hours later. The forecast for Monday called for a high temperature of a rather un-spring-like 35 degrees. And freezing rain was possible, too.

Turned out that it was a little bit more than possible, which was why there was a nice layer of ice coating my car Monday morning. Oh, well, it is now December.

This week's roller coaster weather came on the heels of a two – count 'em – two rounds of snow in November. Including one on the night before Thanksgiving.

Snow in November was rather shocking, and truly unanticipated, especially after what we experienced last winter. I'm guessing that nobody was really ready to see snow in the 11th month of 2014.

Fortunately, the night-before-Thanksgiving snow did not linger. For the most part, the white stuff had melted away by Turkey Day.

That's not to say that some folks probably didn't worry a little bit about the weather's impact on their Thanksgiving travel plans. We didn't have to worry about travel this year.

Our best-laid plans for the holiday included a trip over the river and through the woods to the Bluegrass State. However, as often happens to the best-laid plans, gremlins interfered.

In our case, the gremlins were microscopic in size, but that did not hamper their influence on our lives. The Other Half made an acquaintance with some sort of bug which was kind enough to manifest itself in the form of a sore throat and other miseries.

So, we stayed home for Thanksgiving and she took it easy. We implemented Plan B, or maybe it was Plan C, for the holiday. All in all, we didn't go hungry, and there were lots of leftovers.

Since we stayed home, I had an opportunity to be a part of the Black Friday madness. Well, sort of.

I did go shopping on Black Friday. But, I waited until the afternoon, after all of the crazy people had gone back home to collapse in utter exhaustion. And my shopping did not involve a mall or chain store. I did my part to boost the region's economy by spending a grand total of $16.24. And that was with a half-off coupon.

Over the weekend, I also was able to do at least part of the "over the river and through the woods" thing. My adventure was more of an over the creek and to the woods journey to the Trail of Tears State Forest.

You can probably imagine why I headed to the state forest. Truth be told, though, I just wanted to be out in the woods for the quiet and solitude.

Enough for this week. Maybe I'll see you in Cobden this Saturday for Christmas in the Village. Have a great holiday season. And bee sure to enjoy the weather.
