Please read this...So, what have you been reading lately?

This week, let's talk, again, about books. Books I've been reading. Books you've been reading. Actually, it might be a bit of a challenge to share what books you've been reading, since this is pretty much a one-way conversation.

That being said, if you have been reading something good, let me know. We'll probably see each other out there somewhere. Like maybe in the aisle where we find the Goldfish crackers.

Thanks to the good folks at Stinson Memorial Library, I've been able to read a whole bunch of good books lately. Just in case you want to know, Wednesday is Go To The Library Day for yours truly.

If I don't get to visit the library on Wednesday, it messes up my life for the rest of the week. That's 'cause I am a big time creature of habit. Mess with my schedule, and I'll be growling at you. It's not a pretty sight. Just ask The Other Half.

At the library, at the top of the stairs, to the right, there's a display of new books which have come in. And they've had some good stuff lately.

Good stuff is good, except that it creates a bit of a challenge for me. The library has good stuff. And we've got stacks of good stuff at home, too. There's just too much good stuff – as in good books – and not enough time.

In case you might be interested, and I know that you are, a little bit of the good stuff I've read lately includes:

•"The Generals" and, most recently, "The Aviators," both written by Winston Groom.

Mr. Groom also wrote a little book titled "Forrest Gump." I think that book was made into a major motion picture. I may be wrong about that. If you happen to like well-written history, or just well-written anything, I would recommend "The Generals" and "The Aviators."

•"The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge," written by Michael Punke.

This is another book which is "now a major motion picture." I have not had a chance to see the film. (Such is also the case with "True Grit." I really enjoyed the book. I've never seen the movies, which I understand are very good.)

"The Revenant" is a good story and a well-written book. One thing that kind of piqued my curiosity while I was reading "The Revenant." Just what exactly does the word "revenant" mean? I kept waiting for some sort of explanation to show up in the book. Nope.

So, I looked up "revenant" on the handy, dandy New Oxford American Dictionary which is one of the resources on my nifty MacBook Pro. Seems that revenant is a noun which means "a person who has returned, esp. supposedly from the dead." Oooohhhhh. Now the title of the book makes sense. Lots of sense.

•"The Wright Brothers," by David McCullough. More really good history. Before I read the book, I really did not know much about the story of the Brothers Wright.

You may be asking yourself how in the world I find time to read all of this stuff. To tell you the truth, sometimes I do better than others. And it's a good thing that the library lets readers renew books.

Enough for now...almost...

...SHAMELESS PLUG TIME...AGAIN...

...the catalyst for this week's colyum was another book sale which is coming up at Stinson Memorial Library in Anna.

The Friends of Stinson Library are planning to have a winter book sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 5-7. The sale will be in the basement at Stinson Memorial Library in Anna.

The sale is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday for members of the Friends of Stinson and those who want to become members. The book sale is scheduled to be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. A fill a bag for $5 sale is planned from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

I plan to go to the book sale. Heaven knows I really don't need another book. Then again, you can't have too many books.
