Shawnee defeats Cobden in SEC tourney action
Kyle Griggs scored 21 points to lead Shawnee to a 48-46 win over Cobden for fifth place in the South Egyptian Conference high school boys’ basketball tournament at Century Saturday, Jan. 23.
Ty McMahan added 12 points for the Redskins. Kyle Spurlock had 6 points, Tyler Davis 4, Andrew Livesay 3 and Tyler Brant 2.
Robby Lehr had 17 points to lead the Appleknockers. Steve Draper added 14 points, Alex Sweitzer 11 and Bo Gearhart 4.
Cobden led 9-6 after one quarter and 23-16 at the half. The Appleknockers led 32-30 going into the final quarter.
The Redskins made an 18-14 scoring spurt in the final period to post the come-from-behind win.
Joppa 76, Dongola 56: The Demons couldn’t hold a first quarter lead in the loss in the tournament’s seventh place game.
Dongola led 15-10 after one quarter. The Rangers came on in the second quarter to pull ahead 31-27 at the half. Joppa led 48-41 at the end of three quarters.
Meridian defeated Goreville 85-73 to win the tournament championship.
Century defeated Egyptian 87-81 for third place.
