Shawnee looks to replace big scorer from last year

The Shawnee High School boys’ basketball team will be looking for a replacement for Andrew Livesay, who graduated last year.

“We have to have somebody to replace him,” Shawnee coach LaDonna Bachmann said. “We need someone to fill his shoes.”

Livesay averaged 22.3 points a game last year for the Redskins, who finished 7-17 overall.

Three returning starters on this year’s squad are 5-11 senior forward Gavyn Ellet, 5-10 junior forward Aiden McMahan and 6-3 junior center Austin Treece.

Two other seniors on the squad are 6-4 foward Dalton Myers and 5-11 guard/forward Brandon Pind.

The only junior on the squad is 5-9 guard Ryan Ochoa. The lone sophomore is 5-11 guard/forward Michael Crane.

Freshmen who could see varsity action are 6-0 guard/forward Dylan Boston, 6-1 forward Lucas Matlock and 5-10 guard/forward Nick Crane.

“We’re looking pretty good (in practice),” Bachmann said. “We’ve got a lot more depth on the bench this season and that should make a difference.

“We’re a young team and we’ve just got to learn to run the ball and run our sets.”

Bachmann looks for Meridian and Egyptian to be the top teams in the South Egyptian Conference this season.

Shawnee opens it season at the Trico tournament Monday, Nov. 26, against the host school.
