Special activities planned for Cobden homecoming in January

Special plans are being made for a homecoming celebration Jan. 14-15, 2011, at Cobden High School.

All alumni and other Appleknocker supporters are invited to attend.

The celebration is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, with a basketball game featuring the Cobden Appleknockers and Egyptian.

Homecoming coronation will follow the basketball game.

Appleknocker wear and other items will be available for purchase.

Local businesses encourage fans to take advantage of their homecoming specials after the activities at the high school.

Some businesses will be running specials during the week prior to the weekend, as well.

The homecoming celebration is scheduled to continue at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, with Appleknocker alumni games.

Food and prizes are planned. An alumni social is being planned after the game.

Organizers say that the support of alumni basketball players, cheerleaders and band members is needed to make the event a success.

Those interested in being a part of the activities are asked to contact one of the following people prior to Saturday, Dec. 18:

Eileen Wilkins, for general information, 618-559-7949.

David Stewart, men’s basketball teams, 618-614-0337.

Tammy Washer, women’s basketball teams, 618-697-3094.

Lori Cohen, cheerleaders, 618-924-5187.

Debbie Russell, band, 893-2530. Current band director Richard Merrick also can be contacted about participating. He can be contacted by email at rmerrick@cusd17.org.

Saturday’s alumni games and social will be cancelled due to inclement weather, event organizers report.
