Spirit of cooperation

Last week, we learned of multiple arrests as the result of an investigation into crimes in the Union County area which included burglaries and trafficking in firearms.

The large number of arrests which happened at one time justifiably grabbed the headlines, but another aspect of the investigation needs to be noted.

Local, state and federal authories worked together in this effort. Such a spirit of cooperation is to be commended.

In a time when resources are stretched to the limit, cooperative efforts are needed for the benefit of the entire community. We commend the work which served as the foundation for this major, and successful, investigation.

A new facility

Community members had a chance to visit the Union County Ambulance Service's new facilities during an open house which was held Tuesday in Jonesboro.

The new, modern, spacious facilities are a tribute to long-term planning. Several of those visiting the new building were proud to note that the facility was paid for when it opened its doors.

Spending within our means is critical, especially in these tough times. Such efforts are worth noting.
