Cobden finishes 4-1, take second place at Vienna Tournament

The Cobden High School boys’ basketball team finished 4-1 at the Vienna Round Robin Tournament to earn second place honors.

“We played pretty well in spurts,” Cobden coach Wendell Wheeler said. “It’s not  too bad, it’s what we wanted to do.”

The  Appleknockers’ Noah Franklin and Joe Brumleve were each named to the all-tournament team.

Cobden 47, Vienna 39: The host Eagles let a first quarter lead slip away in the second place game Saturday, Nov. 30.

Noah Franklin led the way for Cobden with 30 points. Dylan Lewey added 7 points, Jose Lopez 4 and Alex Remsey and Tyler Franklin 3 apiece.

Cobden 60, Century 37: The lights went out and the game was postponed with the Appleknockers ahead 32-25 early in the third quarter Friday, Nov. 29.

Cobden went on to win the game, which resumed on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Noah Franklin led the way for Cobden with 26 points. Lewey followed with 11 points, Brumleve and Lopez 8 apiece, Remsey 4 and Tyler Franklin 3.

Brumleve injured his ankle in the game and was to see a physician earlier this week.

Cobden 62, Carrier Mills 40: The Appleknockers took command early with a 17-8 first quarter lead on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Brumleve led Cobden with 27 points. Noah Franklin added 12, Lewey 10, Tyler Franklin 7, Lopez and John Eck 2 apiece and Sippy Zamora 1.

Cobden 58, Meridian 46: Noah Franklin led Cobden with 26 points in the tournament win Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Brumleve added 17 points, Lewey 6, Tyler Franklin 5 and Alex Remsey 4.

Eldorado 53, Cobden 51: The Appleknockers let a first quarter lead slip away in the opening game of the tournament Monday, Nov. 25.

Lewey scored 20 points to lead Cobden.

Brumleve added 19 points, Lopez 12, Noah Franklin 5, Tyler Franklin 3 and Zamora 2.

Cobden is scheduled to play a South Egyptian Conference game at Joppa Friday, Dec. 6. 

The Applekockers play again in the Marion Harley-Davidson Shootout against Lyon County, Ky., at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
