Cobden plays for title at Chester Tournament
The Cobden High School boys’ basketball team was 12 of 16 from the free throw line in the final quarter and held on for a 45-38 win over Valle Catholic of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., at the 57th annual Chester Tournament Wednesday, Jan. 9.
The Appleknockers finished 18 of 24 from the charity stripe for the game.
Joe Brumleve had 14 points to lead Cobden. Noah Franklin added 12 points, Dylan Lewey 10, Zane Nance 5 and Landon Britt 4.
Cobden was scheduled to play Chester for the championship Saturday, Jan. 12. However, the game was rescheduled because of snow and was to have been played Wednesday, Jan. 16.
Host Chester advanced to the championship game with a 71-37 win over Perryville, Mo.
The Appleknockers won 66-49 over Saxony Lutheran of Jackson, Mo., on Tuesday, Jan. 8, in first-round action at the tournament.
Brumleve led the way for Cobden with 26 points. Franklin added 19 points, Nance 13, Lewey 6 and Britt 2.
Cobden, 13-7, is scheduled to play Friday at Carrier Mills in a regular season game.
