Cobden softball team rebuilding this season

The Cobden High School softball team will be rebuilding this season, with only four upper classmen in the lineup.

“We’re going to be young,” first-year Cobden coach Anthony Howell said. “It’s going to be a learning year for us.”

The two seniors on the team are pitcher/first baseman Lexi Miller and second baseman Megan Rhodes.

Juniors are third baseman Lauren Sweitzer and first baseman/right fielder Jenna Hartline.

Sophomores include pitcher/left fielder Aubrey Fisher and first baseman/catcher Emily White.

Miller and Fisher should handle the main pitching duties.

The squad will consist of  a strong contingent of freshmen in shortstop Makenzie Howell, catcher/third baseman Lily Britt, left fielder Hannah Stillman, center fielder Abby Clover, right fielders Olivia Brumleve and Halle Short and left fielder/2nd baseman Katelyn Shadowens.

“We have a pretty good athletic class with our freshmen,” Howell said.

Howell has a lot of experience coaching summer league softball for the last seven seasons.

The Appleknockers are set to open their season Tuesday, March 12, at home against Benton.
