A-J falls to Carterville, scores win over Cobden
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team split in recent action.
Carterville 45, A-J 37: The host Lady Wildcats fell behind early and couldn’t catch up in the loss Thursday, Dec. 22.
“We played well,” A-J coach Matt Denny said. “We just couldn’t get over the hump.”
Elle Basler had 14 points and 5 rebounds to lead A-J.
Angel Helm added 9 points and 3 rebounds. Connar Hadley had 5 points and 4 rebounds.
Jasmin Foster had 4 points and 2 rebounds. Lexa Sharp and Sydney Heath each had 2 points and a rebound apiece.
A-J 44, Cobden 27: The host Lady Wildcats pulled ahead early in the county-rival win Wednesdy, Dec. 21.
Basler had 9 points and 4 rebounds for A-J. Foster added 8 points and 6 rebounds. Helm had 8 points and a rebound.
Caitlin Sawyer and Mikayla Bundren had 4 points and 2 rebounds apiece.
Sharp had 3 points and Morgan Wendling, Heath, Taylor Harvel and Sydnie Ralls had 2 apiece.
Meredith Flamm had 21 points to lead the Appleknockers. Alaina Hartline added 3 points and Jenna Hartline 2.
A-J, 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference, is scheduled to play Tuesday, Jan. 3, at home against Sparta.
