A-J girls 20-9 as regular season coming to end

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team was 1-2 in recent action.

A-J 42, Sesser-Valier 37: The host Lady Wildcats pulled ahead early on their way to the win Saturday, Jan. 26.

Mikayla Bundren had 11 points and a rebound to lead A-J. Angel Helm had 10 points and 4 rebounds. 

Jaley Watkins had 10 points, 2 rebounds, an assist and a block. Jacee Woodward had  8 points and 5 rebounds. 

Kristin Edmonds had 5 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Anna Hess had 3 rebounds and Kaya Coleman had a rebound.

Pinckneyville 37, A-J 36: The host Lady Panthers went ahead in the second quarter on the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division win Thursday, Jan. 24.

Edmonds had 13 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and a rebound to lead A-J.

Sydney Heath had 7 points, 2 steals, a rebound and an assist. Woodward had 6 points, 3 rebounds and an assist. 

Bundren had 3 points and a rebound. Watkins had 2 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal. Morgan Wendling had 2 points.

Carterville 45, A-J 41, OT: The visiting Lady Lions came on in overtime to outscore A-J 6-3 to claim the win Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Helm had 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead A-J. She also had 12 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist.

Bundren had 9 points, 3 rebounds and an assist. Edmonds had 6 points, 4 assists and 2 rebounds. 

Woodward had 4 points, 5 rebounds, a block and an assist. Watkins had 4 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist.

A-J, 20-9, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, in its final regular season game at Sparta. 

Regional Set

The Lady Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Class 2A regional next week at Wayne City. 

A-J is slated to play the winner of Fairfield/Wayne City at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.
