A-J linebacker Turner selected for Blue-Grey All-American Bowl

Anna-Jonesboro Community High School senior Jayce Turner has been named an All-American prep football player and will compete in the 2017 Blue-Grey All-American Bowl.

The game is scheduled Dec. 18 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The stadium is the home of the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys.

Turner was one of 90 seniors selected from more than 6,750 athletes who competed at regional combines in 2017, making him among the top 1 percent of the players.

This past spring, Blue-Grey Football held 22 regional combines at NFL stadiums and practice facilities throughout the country.

The regional he competed at was located in Nashville, Tenn., on May 13.

The top prospects from the regional combines were then invited to participate in one of the brands five super combines, which was held in Dallas, Texas, June 24-25.

At Dallas, All-American honors were awarded and those remaining are then invited to participate in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl.

Turner  will be a member of the East team and his primary position will be linebacker.

The Blue-Grey All-American football game will be played at the Arlington, Texas, stadium  and begins at 6 p.m. on Dec. 18. The game will be live-streamed across the country on the Impact Football Network.

The coaching staff at the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl includes National Football League veterans, as well as experienced scouts.

Turner, a 5-11, 215 pound senior, has already had contacts from Missouri Valley Conference football teams and Southern Illinois University has been at the top of the list, said Jayce’s father, Jason.

Turner was a first team Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division all-conference player on defense and offense and a returning Coaches Association All-South selection during the 2016 season.

Jason said he doesn’t know who recommended his son for the honor.
