A-J softball opens season
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School softball team lost twice to open the season.
Marion 11, A-J 1: Katie Mays was 1-for-2 with a double to lead the host Lady Wildcats in the loss Saturday, March 17.
Tobie Treece and Morgan Wendling were each 1-for-2.
Britni Helton pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed 8 hits to go with 2 walks and no strikeouts. Wendling pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed a hit to go with no walks and a strikeout.
Johnston City 9, A-J 5: Wendling was 2-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs to lead the Wildcats in the season-opening loss to the host Lady Indians Tuesday, March 13.
Treece was 2-for-4. Alexa Macy was 1-for-3. Lexi Smith and Katie Shepard were each 1-for-4.
Helton pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up 7 hits to go with a walk and a strikeout. Wendling pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up a hit with no walks and a strikeout.
A-J, 0-2, was to have played Wednesday at Shawnee.
