A-J volleyball opens season
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School volleyball team posted a 1-5 record to open the season.
Marion 19-25-25; A-J 25-13-23: Hannah DeWitt led the way in the loss with 10 digs for visiting A-J in regular season play Thursday, Sept. 3.
Julia Lasley had 8 digs and assists and 6 kills. Mikayla Bundren had 6 kills. Kaya Coleman had 4 aces.
The Lady Wildcats played in the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division Tournament at Carterville Saturday, Aug. 31.
Chester 25-25, A-J 19-17: Jaley Watkins led the way in the loss with 10 digs and a block. Hannah DeWitt had 4 aces. Lasley had 4 kills and Anna Hess had 2 blocks.
Pinckneyville 25-25, A-J 15-21: DeWitt had 10 digs in the loss. Watkins had 3 assists and 3 kills. Addison Denny had 3 assists.
Murphysboro 25-25, A-J 13-23: DeWitt and Lasley had 8 digs apiece in the loss. Watkins had 3 assists. Kaya Coleman and Denny had 2 blocks apiece.
Herrin 25-25, A-J 17-16: DeWitt had 8 digs in the loss. Bundren had 7 digs. Watkins had 3 assists and Coleman 3 blocks. DeWitt and Lasley had an ace apiece.
A-J 25-25, Cobden 17-22: Watkins led the way in the regular season game for the visitors with 10 assists and 2 aces on Thursday, Aug. 29.
Bundren had 7 kills. DeWitt had 6 digs and Coleman had 4 blocks. Lasley had 3 kills and Watkins had 2 aces and 2 blocks.
A-J is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at home against Carterville.
