Lady Wildcats earn third-place finish
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team earned a third-place finish while posting a 2-2 record at last week’s Harrisburg Tournament.
A-J wrapped up tournament play Saturday, Nov. 30.
The Lady Wildcats’ Kristin Edmonds and Mikala Bundren were named to the all-tournament team.
A-J 43, Carmi-White County 23: The Lady Wildcats built a 9-5 first quarter lead on their way to the win on Saturday.
Edmonds led the way with 21 points, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. She also had 2 rebounds and a blocked shot.
Jaylee Watkins had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. Bundren had 6 points, 2 rebounds and assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
Anna Hess had 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and steals. Sydnie Ralls had 2 points and steals and a rebound. Reagan Cruse had 2 points and a rebound.
Harrisburg 46, A-J 30: The Lady Wildcats fell behind early and couldn’t catch up in the loss Friday, Nov. 29.
“We didn’t shoot the ball well,” A-J coach Matt Denny said.
Edmonds had 20 points, 4 blocked shots, 3 rebounds and a steal to lead the Lady Wildcats.
Addison Denny had 5 points and rebounds, 2 assists and a blocked shot. Hess had 3 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.
Cruse had a point and 3 rebounds. Watkins had a point. Bundren had a rebound, assist, steal and a blocked shot.
A-J 53, West Frankfort 36: The Lady Wildcats pulled ahead early on their way to the tourney win Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Edmonds led the way with 16 points, 2 steals, a rebound and an assist. Bundren had 12 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal.
Watkins had 11 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal. Addison Denny had 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Hess had 5 points and rebounds and 2 assists. Jenna Sadler had 2 points.
Campbell Belcher had a point and a rebound. Cruse had a rebound, assist and a steal. Ralls and Brodie Denny had a rebound apiece.
Eldorado 41, A-J 36: A-J let a third quarter lead slip away in the opening-round of the Harrisburg Tournament Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Edmonds had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, a steal and an assist to lead A-J.
Cruse had 7 points and 5 rebounds. Bundren had 7 points, 3 rebounds and assists and 2 steals.
Hess had 6 points, 6 rebounds, a block and a steal. Watkins had 4 points and steals and 3 rebounds.
Addison Denny had a point, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Sydnie Ralls had a rebound.
A-J, 3-2, is scheduled to host Marion Thursday, today, and is slated to play against Marshall County, Ky., in their Hoop Fest at noon Saturday, Dec. 7.
