Lick Creek girls’ cross country team continues success

The Lick Creek School Lady Eagles traveled to Marion to the De Mattei-Elliott relays cross country meet.

The meet is set up where each individual will run approximately 1 mile each.

The girls’ race had some confusion as the course was not clearly marked in some spots.

The top three teams in Lick Creek, Marion and Benton were given directions which were not correct.

The runners from these schools all went off course, and by the time they got them back on they were the last three teams. Herrin won the initial race.

To make up for the mistake Lick Creek, Marion and Benton were given the chance to run again with the boys’ race, which was immediately after their initial race, and their time would count if better.

Lick Creek and Marion chose to run again. Lick Creek ended up beating Herrin’s time by over 2 1/2  minutes to win the meet.

Lick Creek next traveled to Centralia for the St. Mary’s Centralia Invitational at Foundation Park, which is the new site for the SIJHSAA state cross country meet.

Lick Creek finished second in the 29 team meet, falling just short of Olney-Richland by 7 points.

Lick Creek was led by fourth grader Jadyn Gerardi, who finished 2nd overall covering the 1.86 mile course in 11:33. Brodie Denny was next in fourth with a time of 12:05.

Kenzie Stover finished next for the Lady Eagles, followed by big sister Kaylee Stover, Meranda Wright and Kylee Myers.

Natilyn Corbit and Mya Clutts competed in the JV race. Lick Creek will travel to Benton and Centralia this week.
