Shawnee takes third at Lady Bobcats tourney

Autumn McMahan scored 11 points to lead Shawnee to a 36-31 win over Cobden for third place at the Lady Bobcats high school girls’ basketball tournament at Meridian Saturday, Nov. 17.

Katie Charles added 10 points for Shawnee, followed by Laycee Presutti 8, Mariah Faire 5 and Kirsten Pitts 2.

Jenna Hartline had 14 points to lead the Appleknockers. Abby Remsey had 9 points, Katelyn Shadowens 7 and Emily White 1.

McMahan and Hartline were both named to the all-tournament team. Dongola’s Alyssa Flores was also selected.

Egyptian 64, Dongola 27: Flores scored 10 points to lead the Lady Demons in a consolation game loss Saturday, Nov. 17.

Dailee Cummins added 8 points for Dongola, followed by Michelle Wolford 5 and Anabelle Durham and Haley Ames 2 apiece.

Century 49, Shawnee 44: Shawnee trailed 23-22 at the half, but was outscored 11-3 in the third quarter to trail 34-25 going into the final quarter in consolation play Friday, Nov. 16.

“The third quarter killed us,” Shawnee coach Shanna Pender said. “We turned the ball over at least seven times.”

McMahan, who scored five 3-pointers, led the Lady Reds with 26 points. Presutti added 10, Charles 6 and Faire 2.

Meridian defeated Century 63-44 to win the championship game.
