Suspect in custody after high-speed chase

A Southern Illinois man was taken into custody after a high speed chase which came to an end in Union County.

The incident left an Anna Police Department squad car with damages. No injuries were reported.

The incident happened early Sunday morning, Oct. 28.

Authorities identified the suspect as Ryan Picket, 29, of West Frankfort.

Picket faced multiple charges in connection with the incident, which began in West City, which is in Franklin County.

Union County Sheriff David Livesay reported that a pursuit began when a West City police officer tried to stop Picket’s vehicle for allegedly driving without headlights.

Picket fled from the officer and traveled south on Interstate 57. At times, Picket’s vehicle reached a speed of 120 miles per hour.

Authorities placed stop sticks on the highway in Union County. The vehicle Picket was driving was slowed by the speed sticks and ran off the highway into the median of I 57.

Picket was transported to Union County Hospital in Anna for treatment. A passenger was in the vehicle with Picket. The passenger was not charged.

Picket was in custody in Franklin County following the incident.

The incident involved authorities from Union, Williamson and Jefferson counties.

The suspect was cited for aggravated fleeing and eluding of authorities, driving under the influence, speeding and for driving with a revoked license.
