Suspect faces multiple charges following pursuit

A Union County man faces multiple charges following a vehicle pursuit incident which happened  last week in Anna.

Anna Police Chief Dale Foster identified the suspect in the case as Dustin J. Hubbs, 18, of Anna.

The incident happened Tuesday night, Dec. 21. The Anna and Cobden police departments and the Union County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the incident.

Foster said the pursuit involved a 2008 Mercedes-Benz which allegedly had been stolen from a business located in the Transcraft Drive area in Anna.

Anna police received a report that the car had been stolen at about 8:20 p.m. on Dec. 21.

The pursuit began to unfold at about 10:40 that night. Authorities attempted to stop the car when it was spotted coming into Anna on East Vienna Street near U.S. Highway 51.

The driver of the stolen vehicle subsequently drove the car into the side of a Cobden Police Department squad car.

The stolen car also struck an Anna Police Department squad car. The squad car was struck while driving alongside the stolen vehicle.

The stolen car was brought to a stop in the Crain Funeral Home parking lot in the 100 block of West Vienna Street in downtown Anna.

Hubbs sustained minor injuries during the incident. He was taken to Union County Hospital in Anna for treatment.

None of the police officers involved in the pursuit were injured.

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds said Hubbs is charged with one count of aggravated possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 1 felony; one count of criminal damage to government property, a Class 3 felony; and one count of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, a Class 4 felony.

Hubbs was taken to the Tri-County Detention Center at Ullin. His bond was set at $200,000.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Tuesday, Jan. 4, in Union County Circuit Court in Jonesboro.

The police cars which were struck during the pursuit each sustained significant damage. The stolen car was totalled. Some railroad ties at the parking lot were damaged.
