Three starters back for Shawnee girls

Shawnee High School girl’s basketball coach Chad Pitts will rely on three returning starters from last year’s 19-6 squad to build a successful team around.

“We lost two starters but we’ve got a lot returning,” Pitts said. “The outlook is pretty good.”

Pitts will be counting on a trio of returning starters. The three juniors are 5-9 guard/forward Taylor Ellis, 5-9 forward Jordan Johnson and guard Reagan Brown.

Senior Jessie Reynolds, a 5-6 guard, will return after sitting out last season due to a knee injury. Another senior candidate is 5-6 guard Haley Murphy.

Other juniors are 5-6 guard Taylor Loveless, 5-9 forward Gwen Kuehne and 5-9 guard Sanni Ahokas, a foreign exchange student from Finland.

“We’re going to be pretty tall,” Pitts said. “And, we’re going to play point guard by committee.”

Pitts said he is still searching for a true point guard candidate. But he likes what he’s seeing in practice.

The Lady Reds open their season Monday, Nov. 14 at the Meridian Tournament. They are scheduled to play Galatia at 5 p.m.
