Transit district shares updates on Cobden, Old 51 shuttles

Shawnee Mass Transit District/SMART is announcing improved shuttle service for Cobden.

The district also has announced an update on the Old 51 shuttle.

Cobden Service

On Feb. 3, SMART plans to increase the number of pick up locations and stops for the shuttle.

The transit district stated that adding more pick up locations will make the service more accessible to the residents of Cobden.

A passenger on the shuttle can go to Anna with stops anywhere in the city limits for a round trip fare of $5.

Shuttle service is by reservation. Those wanting to use the service are asked to call on Tuesday to secure a seat on Wednesday’s shuttle. For more information, call 618-658-8380.

Pick up locations in Cobden include Walnut Street (the housing authority), the housing project at the corner of Appleknocker and Locust, the downtown parking lot, Cobden Village Hall and Hillside Terrace apartments.

The shuttle will begin at 10 a.m. and return at 1:35 p.m.

Old 51 Shuttle

SMART also announced that the Old 51 shuttle is no longer a reservation only service.

The shuttle will continue to operate on Mondays and take passengers to Anna to shop at Walmart and Save-A-Lot.

Stop locations include Cairo,  Mounds, Pulaski, Ullin and Dongola.

The round trip fare for the shuttle is $5.

Children under the age of 12 ride free but must be accompanied by an adult.
